KUALA LUMPUR – This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, which fell on September 21, saw Malaysians celebrating by eating mooncake, enjoying the bright full moon, and taking part in lantern parades.

For foodies, the excitement begins prior to the festival, with shops selling a wide variety of mooncakes of all shapes, sizes and flavours.

For astrophotography enthusiasts, it is also the perfect time to capture a full moon, also known as the Harvest Moon.

A Harvest Moon can occur anywhere between two weeks before or after the autumnal equinox depending on the year, and is either the last full moon of the summer season or the first in autumn.

The autumnal equinox takes place on September 22 in the Northern Hemisphere, while the Harvest Moon occurs in March or early April in the Southern Hemisphere.

The last appearance of the Harvest Moon was earlier this year on March 28, and the next will be on March 18, 2022.
