A 21-MEMBER team of doctors from the Sri Sathya Sanjeevani Hospitals (SSSH) group, India performed heart surgeries on 23 children in two weeks under the Miracle Baby Programme (Second Mission) in Penang.
The team performed life-saving procedures on the children of various races, aged from just a few months up to 12-years-old, with the help of local doctors at the Penang Hospital.
The second edition of ‘Miracle Baby programme’ was earlier launched by The Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim at the Penang Hospital.
As part of Miracle Baby initiative, Dr. Ragini Pandey, Chief Peadiatric Cardiac Surgeon from SSSH led the team and performed pro-bono lifesaving surgeries on paediatric patients with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).
Miracle Baby is a collaboration between SSSH, the Ministry of Health and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).
Also present at the launch were deputy health minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni; Dr C. Sreenivas, Chairman of SSSH; Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia BN Reddy and UTAR Foundation chairman Sak Cheng Lum.
Lukanisman lauded the contribution of SSSH in organising this mission and for performing life saving surgeries.
The Second Miracle Baby Programme, backed by The Penang Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB) marks a triumph in community healthcare.
PHEB vice-chairman and former director of the Sungai Bakap Hospital, Senator Dr RA Lingeshwaran, said the programme began in 2022.
PHEB chairman RSN Rayer, who is Jelutong MP, also hosted a special event at the Waterfall Temple in Penang to honour the doctors who took part. - May 1, 2025
