PENANG is fast gaining a reputation as a preferred international conference destination following the pandemic lockdowns some five years ago.
Among the exciting events to look forward to is the Federation of Asian & Oceania Pest Managers Association (FAOPMA) summit at St Giles Wembley Hotel.

The summit will be launched by state executive councillor Wong Hon Wai, who oversees tourism today.
It's a significant event for the pest management industry and the summit aims to advance FAOPMA's mission of promoting professional pest management practices.
Earlier, Wong's counterpart Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, who oversees health and sports, officiated the 32nd International Congress of the Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society (OGSM) of Malaysia.
The event was held at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Sungai Ara.
Some 3,000 delegates are believed to be participating in both events.
Wong said that this augurs well for tourism, especially if Penang grows in stature as a preferred meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) location.
Business events in Penang have being generating billions in tourism value since the past five years, especially when the Penang Conventions Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) was established.
As for the FAOPMA event, expect interesting proposals to be discussed, including in relocating street hawkers to centralised food court locations to avert the rise of pest infestations.
There is also a topic on food security, especially in the climate change age where farming is under threat due to severe weather patterns. - July 13, 2025.
