KUALA LUMPUR – "Won't you catch a chill?"

That’s just one example of the cynical comments of netizens chiming in on the brave action of a model who was dressed in eye-catching clothing during the Kedah Fashion Week 2022 (KFW22) event that took place at the Aman Central mall in Alor Star, which ran from August 5 to 7.

A picture of the woman wearing only a green formal suit without a shirt revealing her midsection has now gone viral on Twitter.

The majority of netizens criticised the organiser of the event for featuring models in such eye-catching outfits.

“This is Kedah, not Paris or the Met Gala,” said one user.

"Wow, speechless. I though it was Milan Fashion Week. Apparently it's Kedah I'm telling you," said Zailan Firdaus.

"This is only the Kedah Fashion week and she’s half dressed. Imagine Kim K lost her dress at the Met Gala," said Myra Jennah.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the state's Health and Local Government Committee, Datuk Dr Mohd Hayati Othman said his party will take action against the organisers of KFW22, including calling on them to give a follow-up explanation on the incident.

He said a review found that the organisers did not apply for a permit or obtain approval from the local authorities.

"I received a complaint about the organisation of Kedah Fashion Week which featured models in flashy clothes.

"My side will call the organiser, ask for an explanation and impose appropriate action," he said in a statement on his official Facebook page last night.

In a separate development, Aman Central, the mall that hosted and organised KFW22 apologised for the incident that has ruffled the sensitivities of many.

"We wish to clarify that management did advise all guests to wear properly, however the challenges were unsurmountable, hence we would like to apologise that we have missed out to screen all guests during the show.

"Rest assured that we take this as an opportunity to reinforce all our procedures to prevent incidents like this from happening again.

"We wish to clarify that the event is not related to the Kedah State Government in any way, but is the mall's internal event that has been ongoing since 2016," the statement said.

This was the first time the event has been held in two years, after last year's edition was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The statement also said the organisers had obtained all the proper approvals from the authorities before the event was held. – The Vibes, August 10, 2022
