Prioritise the underserved, revamped cabinet told

SARAWAK PKR has urged the newly reshuffled federal cabinet to focus on helping the many who are still marginalised in society.

Its chairman Roland Engan today said the new cabinet seemed forward-minded and progressive.

“We urge (the ministers) to prioritise helping those lacking basic (living essentials), especially among those still marginalised in Sarawak.

“We have people in urban and rural regions of Sarawak left behind in so many aspects. These marginalised (people) in Sarawak need specific focus,” he said in a statement.

Engan urged the state government to liaise with the revamped cabinet to look into the matter.

He said the state and federal governments should focus on realising basic infrastructure improvement programmes outlined in Sarawak’s Budget 2024, especially rural rods and electricity and water supply.

IN PENANG, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who is also state DAP chief, hoped the reshuffled cabinet would help the state become a regional economic powerhouse.

The DAP-led state government was supportive of the reshuffle as it could consolidate the national unity bloc and push its agenda forward after one year in power, he said in a statement.

Penang has recorded impressive investments in its manufacturing sector, while marking strong figures in tourism, trade and logistics.

Besides being Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s home state, Penang has two MPs who are also federal ministers – Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek (Nibong Tebal MP) and Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong (Bukit Mertajam MP).

Tanjong MP Lim Hui Ying is deputy federal finance minister.
