PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Communications Ministry is prepared to evaluate the request from Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to remove 'Man on The Run' - a documentary on the 1MDB saga.

Earlier today, Najib's counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, wrote to Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil, saying the documentary contained several statements which could be deemed as contempt due to the ongoing 1MDB financial scandal involving the former prime minister at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur.

In the letter, he also cited statements from various individuals in the documentary, including former attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas, former US ambassador to Malaysia John R Malott, Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown, and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“We will consider it,” Anwar told reporters briefly after Friday prayers at the Al-Hijrah mosque in Kajang.

Shafee also said the MCMC could take legal action against the documentary’s makers, citing a legal provision that punishes offensive content online with a maximum RM50,000 fine or maximum one-year jail term.

On Monday, Shafee  made his complaint about the documentary to High Court judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah during the 1MDB trial. - The Vibes, January 12, 2024
