A MEDICAL officer has lodged a report in Kuching claiming former Sarawak governor, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, 88, was removed from the Normah Medical Specialist Centre by his wife.

In the report sighted by The Vibes, Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib showed up at the hospital at 11.56pm on Saturday with her butler and bodyguard.

"Despite advice to have the patient remain at the hospital for proper and adequate treatment, I was informed by the staff nurse that she (Raghad) proceeded to voluntarily remove all medication attached to the patient without alerting the ICU staff on duty," read the report by Dr Mohd Nazrin Jefri who was the attending resident MO at the time.

Taib was then taken by Raghad, her butler and bodyguard on a wheelchair to a black Toyota Alphard parked at the entrance of the hospital lobby.

According to the police report, Dr Mohd Nazrin tried to explain once again to Raghad that her action of taking Taib from the hospital's care may cause harm to the patient.

The report further stated that the hospital had since received a copy of a letter from lawyers Alvin Chong and Partners to Raghad instructing her to notify them (lawyers) if Taib was to be discharged.

The hospital's medical director has also issued an order that the patient should remain treated at the hospital and if the patient is discharged against the medical advice or absconded by any relative or wife, they are obligated to sign the discharge against medical advice form.

Failing which, no medical services will be provided to the patient in future.

Last month former speaker of the Senate, Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar was appointed as the eighth Yang di-Pertua Negri of Sarawak.

He replaced Taib who was sworn in as the seventh governor on March 1, 2014.

In October last year, he state secretariat announced the postponement of all public events earlier planned in conjunction with the 87th birthday of Taib

State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki in a statement, said the events scheduled for Oct 13, 14 and 15 were postponed.

However, there was no reason given for the decision to postpone all the scheduled events.

Earlier, in August, a video of Taib supposedly at an overseas location was circulated via Instagram and TikTok by Raghad.

Local Sarawak media have picked up the video and shared the story on their news updates.

The video also contains a message from Raghad to Taib.

“Happy Sunday to everyone,” she says in the video. “Hello Tun, hello husband, I love you. Long life to you ......”

The location of the video or the exact whereabouts of Taib was not disclosed.

Speculation about the actual health status of Taib had resulted in rumours circulating since late June. -

Meanwhile, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata confirmed that police have received a report on the matter and are investigating.

"We are investigating the case under Section 336 of the Penal Code.

"In the meantime, we urge the public not to speculate on the matter and let the police complete their investigations," he added. - The Vibes, February 5, 2024
