THE PROGRESSIVE Democratic Party (PDP) has filed police reports against a social media influencer for allegedly defaming party president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing with an insulting video and provoking racial hatred.
Its youth chief David Yeo led the way by filing his report at the Miri Central Police Station late yesterday.
In the report he said Tiong had been subjected to ridicule and insults, along with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, by the social media user with the online identity of 'Bozz Jebat'.
"The video made by Bozz Jebat had been posted by him on social media.
"The video has gone viral and it can create public unrest as it contains insults and defamatory comments that are racial and extreme.
"We in PDP call on the police to act to stop him from causing further harm," he said in a press statement today.
Yeo said PDP leaders of branches in Kuching, Bintulu and Saratok districts also lodged similar reports at their respective nearby police stations.
Tiong is the federal minister of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. He is also the MP for Bintulu as well as state assemblyman for Dudong.
Yesterday, Gabungan Parti Sarawak's main component party, Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB), had also called on the police to act on 'Bozz Jebat' for insulting Abang Johari.
PBB political secretaries lodged their reports at the Kuching Central Police Station.
The party’s information chief Datuk Idris Buang called on the police to locate 'Bozz Jebat' who had allegedly tarnished Johari with insults and comments in a video that could cause public unrest.
"We in PBB call on the police to act against this person ‘Bozz Jebat’ for posting videos insulting the Sarawak premier.
"The insults are clearly of provocative nature. They could disrupt public peace.
"Such a video is in breach of regulations governing the multimedia and communication laws," he had added.
Numerous Sarawak NGOs have already lodged police reports against 'Bozz Jebat'.
Kuching district police chief Asst Comm Ahsmon Bajah later told reporters that the police had received several official reports against "Bozz Jebat" and are investigating the case. – The Vibes, March 1, 2024
