PKR vice-president, Nurul Izzah Anwar was appointed as the new chairman of the Social and Economic Research Initiative (SERI) think tank.

In a statement, SERI said Izzah's appointment would help strengthen the think tank's commitment to fighting inequality and other social issues.

"Izzah brings a wealth of experience and expertise in social development. She is also a distinguished public servant, political activist, and legislator, and has

continuously promoted economic and social equity for all Malaysians.

"Focusing on vulnerable communities such as B40 and women, Izzah has crafted projects dedicated to bettering their lives as well as

introducing initiatives such as Malaysia’s Multidimensional Poverty Index report focused on gauging social-economic well-being," SERI said in a statement today.

In her role, Izzah will work closely with SERI’s team in conjunction with its newly elected board of advisers.

The introduced strategic changes leverage experts in social, demographic and economic fields, and re-structure SERI’s objective to hone in on five key development issues in Malaysia which are youth; women empowerment; healthcare reform; digital economy; and social justice.

"SERI kicked off the new restructuring with our Women in the Workforce research forum. In line with International Women’s Day, the event celebrated women’s place in the workforce and discussed the key issues they face in employment.

"We are pleased to welcome Izzah to SERI’s team in conjunction with new organisational changes, and we look forward to the positive impact she will undoubtedly have on our organisation and the communities we serve."

SERI is a non-partisan think-tank dedicated to the promotion of evidence-based policies that address issues of inequality, particularly at the intersection of technology and society. - The Vibes, March 8, 2024
