THE National Union of Bank Employees (Nube) today called upon the prime minister and Members of Parliament to intervene and resolve the predicament faced by B40 and M40 bank employees.
Its general secretary, J Solomon claimed that the integrity of 15,000 B40 and M40 bank employees, along with their family members, were 'scammed' by the banks.
"They were 'scammed' on the disbursement of one month's salary as Festive Aid as highlighted in the Dewan Rakyat by certain MPs on March 14," he said in a statement.
He said the Human Resources Minister said both parties would then engage in a reconciliation meeting at the Industrial Relations Department (IRD).
At the reconciliation meeting on March 21, IRD officials essentially acted as 'postmen', claimed Solomon.
Despite Nube's efforts to correct the banks' misleading information, he said the IRD officials concluded that they would compile the information and refer to Putrajaya, as the banks remained adamant.
Solomon also pointed out that the banks recorded significant profits last year and were financially capable of providing the same one-month salary as Festive Aid to B40 and M40 employees in 2024 as done in 2023.
"With 75 percent of our members being Muslims and the holy month of Ramadan nearing its end, the Hari Raya celebrations will be overshadowed by sadness.
"The unjust policies of affluent and powerful banks are denying B40 and M40 workers their rightful festive entitlements after a month of fasting," added Solomon. - The Vibes, March 23, 2024
