OPPOSITION blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris was charged today with making seditious remarks about and defaming His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim King of Malaysia.

Wan Muhammad, better known as Papagomo, pleaded not guilty before Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court judge Siti Aminah Ghazali.

Wan Azri is accused of making seditious posts on X on April 29. The offence falls under paragraph 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948 and punishable by a maximum three years' jail or RM5,000 fine or both, upon conviction.

His statement is contained in a video clip in which he questioned the king's decision to grant an audience to the founder of KK Mart stores over the issue of socks imprinted with the word "Allah”.

Wan Azri is alleged to have said in the clip that the Agong had ordered for Bersatu member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, be prosecuted under the sedition law for questioning the king’s will. – May 2, 2024.
