A 35-YEAR-OLD prosecution witness in a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) case pleaded not guilty in the Shah Alam Sessions Court today to providing inconsistent statements to the investigating officer.
The statements are related to an investigation involving the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) funds.
V. Meenaloshini was accused of making a statutory declaration before commissioner of oaths Amer Hamzah Mohd Ali in Prima Sri Gombak on Dec 20, 2023 which were contradictory to statements given to a MACC investigating officer on Jan 24, 2022.
Her statement in the statutory declaration stated that she was dealing directly with contractors who made claims for the Mitra fund and never dealt with an individual named Dr. Kumaran.
In her statement to the MACC officer, she said that payments to each contractor would be made directly by Dr. Kumaran either by check, online transfer or cash.
Meenaloshini was charged under Section 27(2) of the MACC Act 2009 with making statements with the intention to mislead the commission and the public prosecutor and faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM100,000, or both, upon conviction.
The judge granted her bail of RM10,000 with one surety and ordered her to surrender her passport and report to the nearest MACC office once a month.
Deputy public prosecutor Maziah Mohaidi prosecuted while K Kanagavalli represented the accused.
The court set April 30 for remention. - March 27, 2025
