THE Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has assured that chicken egg prices will remain under control despite plans to fully remove subsidies by August 2025.
Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the subsidy reduction from RM0.10 to RM0.05 per egg, effective May 1, 2025, followed by complete removal on August 1, 2025, would not result in a price surge as eggs will continue to be classified as price-controlled items.
“We have specific operations in place to monitor supply, and recently, the government established a special committee chaired by KPDN to oversee supply stability and pricing,” he said during a press conference after launching RON97 fuel products at a Petronas station in Kimanis on Saturday.
He also warned traders against arbitrarily increasing prices, reminding them that eggs remain under price control.
“Our officers will monitor this in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM).
“We also have existing complaint platforms for the public to report any sale of eggs above the controlled price,” he added.
The subsidy restructuring is part of the MADANI Government’s phased approach to targeted subsidy reforms, aimed at ensuring more sustainable public spending. - May 3, 2025
