THE Selangor state government has allocated over RM14 million for 2025 to implement a range of targeted programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the Indian community across the state.
This was announced by the State Executive Councillor for Human Resources and Poverty Eradication, Papparaidu Veraman, in response to a question by Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim (PH–Kota Damansara) during the 15th Selangor State Assembly sitting at Wisma Dewan Negeri on Wednesday.
Papparaidu said the state government remained committed to the welfare and well-being of all communities, including the Indian community, through high-impact initiatives.
Among the key allocations is RM1 million for the Selangor Indian Entrepreneurs Equipment Assistance Programme (I-SEED), which supports low-income micro and small Indian entrepreneurs with business equipment or machinery. This is expected to benefit 100 individuals earning under RM3,000 per household.
An additional RM1.2 million will be channelled into a tertiary education fee assistance programme for B40 Indian students pursuing diplomas or degrees at public and private institutions. Some 486 students are expected to benefit from mid-July 2025 onwards.
A further RM950,000 has been earmarked for subsidised school bus fares for Indian families in the B40 category, and RM300 in annual one-off aid will be distributed to 3,166 Tamil school pupils from low-income households.
Cultural celebrations will also be supported, with RM800,000 allocated to fund Indian festivals such as Deepavali, Thaipusam, Ponggal, Vaisakhi and Ugadi.
Papparaidu added that the Deepavali “Jom Shopping” voucher scheme would distribute RM4.43 million in aid to 22,150 B40 Indian recipients.
Tamil schools will receive RM5 million under the Selangor Schools Assistance Programme for infrastructure repairs and upgrades to ensure safer, more conducive learning environments.
Another RM1 million will be disbursed through the LIMAS Financial Aid Programme to support temple associations and organisations managing places of worship with construction, maintenance, equipment and religious activities.
Papparaidu highlighted that various other schemes under the “Iltizam Selangor Penyayang” initiative would also benefit the Indian community, including Selangor People’s Tuition Centres, Peduli Siswa, Iltizam Mahasiswa Selangor, Smart Selangor Technical Skills Initiatives, Hijrah Selangor financing schemes and the Selangor Madani Entrepreneur Grant.
He stressed the state government’s commitment to maintaining high allocations to ensure the well-being of all segments of Selangor society.
High-impact foreign investment into the Selangor Aero Park (SAP) project
In a separate development, the state also outlined five key strategies to ensure the success of the Selangor Aero Park (SAP) project at KLIA Aeropolis in attracting high-impact foreign investment in the aerospace sector.
Selangor State Executive Councillor for Investment, Trade and Mobility, Ng Sze Han, said the strategies were developed jointly by the Selangor State Government (Incorporated) or MBI and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), in a concerted effort to establish SAP as a regional aerospace hub.
He said the first strategy focused on establishing a world-class ecosystem with global market access, citing the presence of major firms such as Airbus Helicopters, GE Aviation and Spirit AeroSystems as central to fostering innovation, high-end facilities and industry-academia collaboration.
The second strategy involves streamlined, investor-friendly governance by coordinating approvals and development processes efficiently across federal, state and local authorities.
The third strategy prioritises talent and workforce development, with SAP aiming to become a centre for aerospace human capital through partnerships with NAICO and technical institutions like STDC, MIAT and Politeknik Banting.
The fourth involves integrated logistics infrastructure supported by multimodal connections to KLIA, highways, sea ports and free trade zones. - July 9, 2025
