A PRIMARY school in Keningau has become the first school in Sabah to roll out a dedicated Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) module tailored for young learners aged between 7 and 9.
The pilot initiative held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pasir Puteh was launched by Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching, is part of a broader nationwide campaign coordinated by the Ministry of Communications through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
A total of 120 pupils from Years 1 to 3 took part in the programme, which introduces specially developed learning materials to equip young children with essential digital literacy and cyber safety knowledge.
“This campaign uses a special module aimed at children aged 7 to 9 to enhance understanding of general internet use, app functions, and awareness of online risks and threats,” the MCMC stated.
The pupils were taught about the minimum age requirement of 13 to open social media accounts, and introduced to the dangers of cyberbullying, online grooming, and other internet-related risks.
The programme also emphasises healthy digital habits, encouraging children to explore positive offline alternatives and develop responsible internet usage skills from a young age.
Organisers expressed confidence that early education in online safety will lay the groundwork for a more informed, cautious and digitally literate generation. - July 14, 2025
