UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has ridiculed Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) claim that it held a better administrative track record than the current government, calling it nothing more than wishful thinking.
Speaking after officiating the Tampin UMNO Division delegates’ meeting on Saturday, Zahid said the administration led by PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was widely regarded as a failure during its time in office.
“We cannot stop someone from daydreaming — dreams don’t cost anything,” Zahid remarked.
“But that period of his leadership was known as a failed government. Let us not repeat that failure,” he said.
His remarks came in response to Muhyiddin’s recent statement that PN had more effective governance experience, particularly during the COVID-19 crisis, and would do away with several practices of the current Unity Government if it returned to power.
Muhyiddin, who is also the MP for Pagoh, had claimed that a new PN-led government would introduce improved policy frameworks, particularly those centred on public welfare.
Zahid, however, dismissed these assertions and underscored the shortcomings of the former PN government, implying that such promises should be viewed with scepticism based on past performance. - July 19, 2025
