MALAYSIANS have warmly welcomed a series of cost-of-living initiatives unveiled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, including a one-off RM100 cash handout, a nationwide public holiday on 15 September, and a forthcoming reduction in the price of RON95 petrol.
The RM100 cash aid, which will be credited directly to recipients’ MyKad and can be used at over 4,100 participating retail outlets, was met with appreciation across social media.
Hamdiah Yakop described the assistance as meaningful and practical: “It’s enough to buy three bags of rice.”
An additional public holiday on Monday, 15 September—providing a long weekend ahead of Malaysia Day—was also greeted with excitement.
“Thank you, Anwar, for the 15 September public holiday,” wrote X user @naya.
Facebook user Callo Callo Enya described the extended weekend as “a perfect chance to travel”, adding, “With leave from 13 to 16 September, we can finally take a break.”
The proposed drop in RON95 fuel prices to RM1.99 per litre under a targeted subsidy mechanism was another highlight.
“Thank you, PMX. Even RON95 is cheaper. You’re the best!” said Ezhan Arif.
Shaharizan Hashim commented on Facebook that the combined impact of reduced electricity bills and cheaper petrol would have “a major impact on our monthly household expenses”.
Muhamad Maududi added that while the aid may seem modest, “it still means a lot. Thank you to the Prime Minister.”
Facebook user Loh Cheng Heng praised Anwar’s attentiveness to public hardship, saying, “Thank you, PMX, for understanding the burdens faced by the people.”
For Rosnizan Yakuldin, the initiatives provide genuine relief: “It may seem small, but it truly helps ease the pressure. A much-welcomed bonus for 2025. Thank you, PMX.” - July 23, 2025
