A BUSINESSMAN has reported losing over RM100,000 in what is believed to be a fraudulent investment scheme involving the sale of sacrificial cattle to Thailand, allegedly orchestrated by a business associate falsely claiming the title of ‘Datuk’.
Mazli Hamzah, 38, said he only realised he had been deceived when the individual, known as Mirza Nizam, disappeared without delivering the agreed cattle ahead of Aidiladha.
“The incident happened on the night of 15 March at a premises in Bandar Dato Onn where we discussed a qurban cattle venture. I handed over cash as business capital. He guaranteed triple returns by the festive season,” Mazli said when met by reporters on Monday.
His calls later went unanswered, and Mirza could no longer be found at his rented residence or regular place of business.
Suspecting he had been scammed, Mazli lodged a police report at the Bandar Dato Onn Police Station on 21 July.
A subsequent check revealed that Mirza had previously been charged in court in 2022 for impersonating a ‘Datuk’ and unlawfully displaying the Royal Pahang insignia.
Following the report, Mirza lodged a counter-report on 25 July at the same police station and allegedly threatened to sue Mazli for RM10 million for defamation.
“I just want the matter resolved amicably and my investment returned,” Mazli said.
The Johor Bahru South District Police Headquarters confirmed receiving the report and stated that investigations are ongoing. - July 28, 2025
