TWO car fires were reported in two different locations in Penang on Wednesday evening, in Tasek Gelugor and Gelugor respectively.
In the first incident on Jalan Jarak Atas heading to Ara Kuda, Tasek Gelugor, a Mercedes S400H car was about 75 percent destroyed in the fire that occurred at 2.16 pm.
Assistant Director of the Fire and Rescue Operations Division of the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in Penang, John Sagun Francis said that they received an emergency call at 2.16 pm before arriving at the location at 2.34 pm with a force of eight personnel and two FRT and EMRS type vehicles.
“The Operations Release Team extinguished and controlled the fire which destroyed most of the vehicle.
"The fire was successfully brought under control at 2.39pm and the operation was completely ended at 3pm after ensuring there were no other risks," he said in a statement reported by Sinar Harian.
In a separate incident at 3.49pm, a Proton Waja car also caught fire on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah heading towards Gelugor, near the Batu Uban Road Transport Department (JPJ).
John Sagun said the fire brigade rushed to the location eight kilometres away after receiving an emergency call and arrived at 4pm with a force of 10 personnel and two engines.
“The fire damaged 80 per cent damage to the car. The fire was completely extinguished at 5.27pm," he said.
He added that the cause of the fires and the estimated loss are still under investigation by the FIO.
"No casualties were reported in both incidents," he added. - November 12, 2025
