PENANG DAP has sought to clarify the alleged misunderstanding between the party's Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and his predecessor, Lim Guan Eng, recently.
Its publicity secretary Joshua Woo Sze Zeng said that the appointment of councillors for both city councils had met the required conditions and processes.
The Pulau Tikus assemblyman said that the selection was conducted in accordance with the established method long practised by Penang DAP.
The procedure applied was consistent with past practice and an institutional precedent, he said in a statement.
"As part of the due process, Members of Parliament (MPs), State Assemblymen (ADUNs), DAP Parliamentary Liaison Committees (PLCs), party branches, WANITA and DAPSY were invited and allowed to submit nominations for consideration. The nomination process was therefore consultative and inclusive."
An interview process was conducted on December 12, 2025, by a five-member panel comprising the state chairman, deputy chairman, two vice - chairmen and the state secretary.
Candidates were assessed based on suitability, track record, commitment and ability to serve effectively, said Woo.
The process undertaken reflects collective deliberation, structured assessment and adherence to established party procedures, he added.
Recently, Chow had dismissed allegations that he had removed former councillor Ng Yee Siang from the list of councillors appointed under the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) for 2026.
Chow said the claims, made by Lim, who is also the Bagan MP, were false, unfounded, misleading and intended to incite dissatisfaction against him. - February 13, 2026.
