THE Malaysian government will continue to strengthen the capacity, training and preparedness of the Civil Defence Force (APM) in line with efforts to build a more resilient nation capable of facing increasingly complex climate change challenges and disaster risks, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.
Highlighting the pivotal role of the APM during times of crisis, Zahid, who is also Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said that every time the country is tested by disasters — be it floods, fires or landslides — Civil Defence personnel are always among the first on the ground.
“They arrive with full dedication, working hand in hand with other rescue agencies to render assistance and ensure that victims are in safe conditions,” he said in a Facebook post commemorating the 95th World Civil Defence Day.
“Indeed, the dedication and sacrifice of the Civil Defence men and women in safeguarding the safety and welfare of the people are of great significance to the nation,” he added.
Zahid also expressed his appreciation to all APM personnel for their frontline role in disaster management, rescue operations and humanitarian assistance.
“May the Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia remain steadfast, authoritative and a bastion of security for the people. God willing,” he said.
In a separate message marking the 60th anniversary of the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), also shared on Facebook, the Deputy Prime Minister said the agency will continue to be reinforced to ensure that more young Malaysians can progress further and compete on the global stage.
Referring to MARA’s establishment on March 1, 1966, Zahid said the institution remains strong and relevant as a catalyst for Bumiputera development, in step with an increasingly challenging and competitive era.
“Six decades later, MARA stands as an institution that has opened up millions of opportunities in producing a generation of professionals, entrepreneurs, skilled workers and leaders who contribute to the progress of the nation,” he said.
“Behind every success story, there is a role played by MARA that builds confidence, shapes capability and opens the way to a better life. MARA has become a bridge of hope, turning potential into achievement and dreams into reality,” he added.
Dr Ahmad Zahid also conveyed his gratitude to the entire MARA workforce for their dedication and service, and expressed hope that the agency would continue to move forward in building a greater legacy and becoming a symbol of strength and the future for Bumiputera. - March 1, 2026
