KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Star will be going national with the opening of new liaison offices in Peninsular Malaysia.
Its secretary-general Datuk Guandee Kohoi said the decision was made during the party’s Supreme Council meeting chaired by party president Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan on Wednesday.
“The party has named a Sabahan, Datuk Iskandar Malik, as the party’s chairman in Peninsular Malaysia, and several others will be appointed liaison chairmen to serve in offices in Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Penang, and other states,” he said.
On December 12, Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) led by Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal announced that the party was eyeing setting up branches in the peninsula, bringing with it its message of racial and religious harmony.
Shafie said there are up to 300,000 Sabahans in the peninsula. Guandee said Sabah Star is looking at a chance to contest seats there if there are requests from Sabahans who work and live there.
“I would like to take this opportunity to invite all Sabahans living in the peninsula to join Sabah Star, while non-Sabahans can join as allied members.”
Guandee said the decision to expand the party’s activities beyond Sabah does not breach party constitution. – The Vibes, January 2, 2021
