KUALA LUMPUR – PAS rejects any efforts to form a new coalition that is not Muafakat Nasional (MN) or Perikatan Nasional (PN), said party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang today.
In a statement published by party organ Harakah Daily, the Marang MP said the unity under MN and PN is based on the Quran and Islamic teachings meant to unite Muslims and Malays.
“Therefore, we reject any efforts to form a new coalition under the new brands that have been proposed. We firmly state that we had just established MN and PN, which is a seed that has been planted in fertile soil.
“Thus, any proposals for a new coalition are similar to weeds or pests that must be destroyed. This is the Islamic mould we have returned to but was forgotten before this. Don’t be a Malay who easily forgets because he or she have left Islam,” said Hadi.
He shared a similar narrative to Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa, who said that MN and PN is critical for Malay-Muslim unity in the country.
Recently, many Umno leaders had called for the party to turn against its PN allies Bersatu and PAS in the next general election, saying that they are unhappy with Bersatu president and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration.
There appears to have been talks within Umno that proposed an unheard-of alliance with nemesis DAP, as well as PKR.
Hadi, who is fond of using Islamic teachings as a political vehicle, said it is “haram” or forbidden for Muslims to make such decisions based purely on human intellect, describing it as self-centred and narrow – especially where there are certain individuals who are out to save their own skin and positions. – The Vibes, January 2, 2021
