GABUNGAN Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has unanimously accepted the entry of the United Kinabalu Progressive Organisation (UPKO) as a new component in the coalition.

With UPKO's entry, GRS now comprises Sabah Gagasan Rakyat Party (Gagasan Rakyat), Sabah United Party (PBS), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS) and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).

GRS Chairman and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the decision to accept UPKO was made unanimously in the GRS Supreme Council meeting and is effective immediately.

"We have made a decision and unanimously agreed to accept UPKO as a new member of GRS. Starting today, they are officially members of GRS," he said at a press conference after chairing the GRS Supreme Council Meeting at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) today.

Hajiji, who is also GRS President, said UPKO's participation will strengthen the position of local parties in the coalition, helping to ensure that political stability and state administration are maintained.

"We want to create and maintain the stability of the state government that exists today," he said.

Asked if there were concerns among component parties regarding UPKO's entry, Hajiji stressed that all parties fully supported the decision.

"There were none. Everyone agreed because we want to strengthen GRS. So, there is no question of concerns or other matters," he said. – June 18, 2026
