POLICE have dismantled the Vinod Gang, a group allegedly involved in violent crimes in Selangor since 2023, following the arrest of 11 suspects during Ops Rapido last month.
All 11 suspects are scheduled to be charged at the Sepang Sessions Court in Selangor at 9.30am on Friday.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M Kumar said the suspects, aged between 21 and 34, were arrested in an operation conducted by Bukit Aman CID and the Selangor CID on June 23 and 24.
He said the group was led by a 30-year-old local man and had 17 members aged between 20 and 34, many of whom were repeat offenders.
"The group has been active from 2023 until now and was involved in various violent crimes, including gang robbery, attempted murder, armed rioting, causing injury with weapons and criminal damage," he said in a statement.
M Kumar said the group's modus operandi involved carrying out armed robberies using machetes and other sharp weapons, targeting residential premises, as well as committing other serious offences for material gain, power or influence.
All 11 arrested suspects were remanded under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) until Saturday.
"All those arrested have various previous criminal records, including attempted murder, gang robbery, criminal damage, causing injury with weapons, housebreaking, criminal intimidation, extortion, armed rioting and multiple drug-related offences, including drug trafficking," he said.
Police have also identified five other members of the group who remain at large, with efforts underway to locate and arrest them.
The case is being investigated under Section 130V of the Penal Code, which relates to membership of an organised criminal group.
M Kumar said the arrests had enabled police to solve 21 cases and dismantle an armed criminal syndicate operating in Selangor.
He added that investigation papers were referred to the Serious Crime Division (UJB) of the Attorney General’s Chambers on July 17, with instructions received to charge the 11 suspects under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code. - July 23, 2026
