POLICE have opened an investigation after receiving two reports concerning a Facebook post alleged to contain insulting remarks against the Perlis royal institution in relation to the conferment of a state honour.
Kangar District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the reports were lodged by two individuals, aged 35 and 40, at the Kangar Police Station at 9.30am and 9.53am on Friday.
He said both complainants alleged that the post was uploaded at 11.36pm on Thursday by a Facebook user identified as "Mohd Syafeeq".
According to Yusharifuddin, the post referred to the conferment of the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK) on Ahmad Adnan Fadzil during the Perlis State Investiture Ceremony.
“In the post, the individual wrote remarks which indirectly questioned the conferment of the award.
“In the complainants' view, the statement could be interpreted as insulting or belittling the honour conferred by the Raja of Perlis,” he said in a statement on Friday.
He said the complainants believed the post had the potential to create negative perceptions of the Perlis royal institution and could lead to public misunderstanding.
Yusharifuddin added that the remarks could also undermine public harmony, particularly as they touched on sensitive issues involving religion, race and the royal institution, commonly referred to as 3R matters.
“The complainants submitted screenshots of the Facebook post as reference material and evidence to assist police investigations.
“Based on information available to the complainants, the owner of the Facebook account is believed to be a young man from, or residing in, Sungai Padang, Perlis,” he said.
He said police were working to verify the identity of the individual concerned and that appropriate action would be taken if any offences under existing laws were established. - July 31, 2026
