MALAYSIANS are being encouraged to strengthen their patriotic spirit through the 2026 Jalur Gemilang campaign, which aims to promote unity, national pride and a deeper appreciation of the sacrifices that shaped the country.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the Jalur Gemilang was more than a national symbol, describing it as a representation of Malaysia’s dignity, sovereignty and identity that should be respected by all citizens.
He said every flag raised during the National Month celebrations served as a reminder that the peace, prosperity and stability enjoyed today were built through decades of sacrifice by security forces, civil servants and Malaysians from all walks of life.
“When Jalur Gemilang flies proudly, it reminds us that the peace, prosperity and well-being we enjoy today did not come easily.
“It was built through the sweat, sacrifices, tears and blood of security personnel, civil servants and all Malaysians who placed the nation’s interests above their own,” he said during the Jalur Gemilang hoisting ceremony themed “Kesejahteraan Dinikmati” today.
Shamsul Azri called on public sector leaders to demonstrate patriotism not only by flying the national flag but also through stronger commitment to integrity, accountability and quality service.
“Do not merely fly the flag, but fly integrity, fly trust, fly unity and fly excellence in public service.
“As civil servants, let us work faster, with greater integrity, professionalism and a stronger commitment to the people. Let our love for the country inspire us to provide the best services to every segment of society,” he said.
He stressed that respect for Jalur Gemilang extended beyond observing regulations, as it reflected appreciation for the Federal Constitution, the institution of the constitutional monarchy and Malaysia’s sovereignty.
Shamsul Azri also encouraged Malaysians to participate in the “One House, One Jalur Gemilang” initiative by displaying the national flag at their homes throughout the National Month celebrations.
He said the initiative would serve as a visible expression of unity and collective pride among Malaysians.
“Let us elevate Jalur Gemilang as a symbol that unites the nation, strengthens the spirit of Malaysia MADANI, defends the country’s sovereignty and builds a Malaysia that is more prosperous, competitive, respected and admired on the global stage,” he said.
At the ceremony, Shamsul Azri distributed Jalur Gemilang kits to ministry secretaries-general and heads of service as a symbol of the public service’s commitment towards the 1 Rumah 1 Jalur Gemilang 2026 initiative.
He also launched a convoy involving 43 vehicles representing 43 ministries, departments and government agencies to mark the public service’s participation in the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
The event, organised by the Ministry of Communications through the Department of Information Malaysia (JAPEN) in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, is among the key programmes for the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations aimed at strengthening patriotism nationwide. - August 1, 2026
