YANG di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir has reminded the state’s leaders to uphold the royal institution, respect the state constitution and place the interests of the people above political and personal considerations.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of Menteri Besar Negeri Sembilan Datuk Ismail Lasim at Istana Besar Seri Menanti today, Tuanku Muhriz said the Menteri Besar and all state assemblymen must remain loyal to the monarchy while recognising the authority of the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang Negeri Sembilan.
The ruler congratulated all elected representatives who secured the people’s mandate in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election held on Aug 1, while expressing appreciation to outgoing assemblymen and state executive council members for their service during the previous term.
Tuanku Muhriz said assemblymen carried a major responsibility as they were entrusted with bringing the voices, aspirations and concerns of the people to the state assembly.
“Your loyalty and commitment must always be prioritised towards the state and the people you represent, above any political or personal interests,” he said.
The Yang di-Pertuan Besar also stressed the need for leaders with integrity and strong principles, warning that any abuse of power or position could undermine public trust and affect the delivery of policies for the people.
He said those entrusted with leadership must carry out their duties with responsibility, honesty and sincerity.
Tuanku Muhriz also expressed confidence in Ismail, urging the new Menteri Besar to continue the achievements of the previous administration while improving areas where weaknesses remain.
The ruler further called on candidates who lost in the election to continue serving the people and contribute towards the state’s development.
He also reminded all communities in Negeri Sembilan to preserve the state’s diversity by respecting different religions, cultures and traditions.
Tuanku Muhriz said mutual respect, tolerance and cooperation among the people would remain key to maintaining the state’s peace, prosperity and harmony. – August 2, 2026
