THE Registrar of Societies (RoS) has confirmed receiving a formal complaint from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) concerning its position in Perikatan Nasional (PN), including allegations that the party was excluded from a coalition supreme council meeting last month.

In a statement today, RoS said the complaint included claims that Bersatu was not involved in the PN Supreme Council meeting held on July 16.

The department said it was reviewing the complaint under the Societies Act 1966 [Act 832], the Societies Regulations 1984, PN’s approved constitution and its official records.

“To ensure that the review is conducted comprehensively and in accordance with the law, all information, documents and explanations submitted by the parties concerned will be examined,” it said.

RoS stressed that all registered societies are required to comply with the Societies Act 1966, relevant regulations and their respective constitutions.

It said the issues raised would be assessed based on the applicable legal provisions and that the department would act professionally and impartially, without favouring any party or having an interest in any registered organisation or political party.

The complaint comes amid an escalating dispute within PN over Bersatu’s status in the coalition.

Last week, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang reportedly said Bersatu’s membership in PN had automatically lapsed after its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, announced the formation of a new coalition.

In response, Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz reportedly accused PAS of using PN to advance its own political interests, including through unilateral actions that allegedly denied the rights of member parties and breached the coalition’s constitution.

Tun Faisal also called on RoS to intervene promptly to address the dispute within PN.

PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said yesterday that the coalition was prepared to provide an explanation if called by RoS over the allegations raised by Bersatu. - August 11, 2026
