PKR dismisses Bersatu cooperation talk as false ‘speculation’

PARTI Keadlian Rakyat (PKR) has dismissed speculation that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is seeking to establish political cooperation with the party, amid renewed talk of a possible realignment involving the opposition party and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said speculation alone could not form the basis for political alignment or determine the direction of the party.

“Speculation,” she told Utusan Malaysia when asked about the reports.

The speculation resurfaced after Bersatu strongly denied claims that it was preparing to revive cooperation with PH and the Federal Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali also rejected claims that meetings or discussions had taken place between Bersatu and PKR leaders over a possible cooperation arrangement with PH.

The rumours were fuelled by remarks made by Azmin, who is also the Hulu Kelang assemblyman, during a debate at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly in Shah Alam.

Azmin, who is the Selangor Opposition Leader, referred to several PH assemblymen in notably cordial terms, describing Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as “adinda”, while referring to Selangor Assembly Speaker Ng Suee Lim as a “friend” and Sentosa assemblyman Gunaraj R George as a “companion”.

However, PKR Selangor state leadership council deputy chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said any decision on cooperation with another political party would have to come from the party’s central leadership.

He said the issue had not been discussed by the PKR Selangor state leadership council.

“We leave it to the central leadership (MPP). So far, it has not been discussed at the PKR Selangor state leadership level,” he said.

Meanwhile, Fuziah said PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar would officiate the AMK and Wanita PKR congresses at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh on Saturday.

Nurul Izzah is also scheduled to attend the main PKR congress, which will continue until Sunday.

“Nurul Izzah will officiate the AMK and Wanita congresses tomorrow and will attend the congress,” Fuziah said. - August 14, 2026
