PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced an additional RM1 million for every parliamentary constituency, saying the money would be used to address the needs of the people.
Anwar said the allocation was part of efforts to ensure development funds reached communities most in need, particularly those struggling with poverty and recurring floods.
“I carry this responsibility. I promised to help the poor,” he said.
“If a problem has affected them every year for decades, with their lives disrupted by floods, I would not be comfortable being Prime Minister and allowing their homes, villages and livelihoods to be destroyed by floods.”
He was speaking during his winding-up speech on the president’s policy speech at the 2026 PKR National Congress today.
Anwar said the government accepted criticism over allocations for MPs but maintained that funding for the people had not been cut.
“We can accept constructive criticism. But allocations have never been reduced.
“In fact, today I want to announce an additional RM1 million for every parliamentary constituency, directly for the people,” he said.
He said allocations should be determined by the needs of the people, rather than political considerations.
Anwar also said Kelantan, Terengganu, Perlis and Kedah had received their highest-ever allocations under the Madani administration, with projects involving water supply, electricity and flood mitigation approved and carried out in the four states.
On criticism against him, including comments made on podcasts, Anwar said he had little interest in responding to personal attacks.
“They insult me on podcasts every night, but I do not respond. You know why? I have work to do,” he said.
“We have to perform, rather than respond to every rant and fuel people’s anger.”
Anwar also took issue with claims by some individuals that they had been offered positions in government-linked companies despite never seeking such appointments.
He said some had previously approached him by highlighting their expertise and suggesting they could contribute through government-linked companies.
