A FORMER technician was charged in the Magistrates’ Court in Kulim, Kedah today with murdering his wife at their home in Taman Tiram on Sept 14.
G Vikneswaran, 43, nodded after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Nur Hamizah Mat Shah.
No plea was recorded as the offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Vikneswaran, a father of one son, was accused of causing the death of his wife, S Sila, 39, between 6.30pm and 9.04pm at their home.
He was charged under Section 302, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of up to 40 years and whipping of at least 12 strokes if the death penalty is not imposed.
Deputy public prosecutor S Preeyaa appeared for the prosecution, while Vikneswaran was unrepresented.
The prosecution informed the court that no bail was offered for the charge.
The court fixed Dec 8 for mention to allow the prosecution to obtain the post-mortem and chemical analysis reports.
Earlier media reports said Sila died after being stabbed 13 times by her husband at their home.
Kulim district police chief Superintendent Syamsul Sinring was reported as saying that initial investigations indicated jealousy as the suspected motive.
He said Vikneswaran had surrendered at Lunas police station, admitted stabbing his wife and handed over a folding knife believed to have been used in the incident. - September 21, 2026
