A HOTEL penthouse in Jalan Ampang, believed to have been operating as a mini casino for poker gambling, was raided by police early today, resulting in the arrest of 16 people.
The raid, conducted under Op Tembok at about 1.50am, involved individuals aged between 26 and 50.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said those arrested comprised 14 Chinese men, a Chinese woman and a Nepalese man.
“Investigations found that the premises had been turned into a mini casino for poker gambling.
“They were invited by close acquaintances, and the gambling activity involved Chinese nationals only,” he said in a statement today.
Police also seized a table, seven chairs, an access card, two sets of dice, a dealer card and 214 poker chips of various colours, with a total estimated value of RM5,180.
Other items seized included 52 playing cards and RM1,000 in cash.
Fadil said the case was being investigated under Sections 4(1)(c) and 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
“All suspects will be brought before a magistrate today for a remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist investigations,” he said.
He advised the public to stay away from all forms of gambling, adding that enforcement operations would be intensified to curb such activities.
