HIS Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has contracted Influenza A and been advised to rest for up to seven days, prompting the postponement of a state honours investiture ceremony.
Istana Alam Shah said the Sultan's personal physicians, Datuk Dr Anuar Onah and Datuk Dr Tan Hui Meng, detected symptoms of the infection on Friday morning after he developed a high fever and weakness.
The palace said the ruler was believed to have contracted the virus while attending public functions and interacting with members of the public, including at outdoor events.
“His Royal Highness’s health is gradually improving, although he still has a fever. The attending doctors have advised him to rest and refrain from attending any functions for five to seven days to allow for a full recovery,” it said in a statement yesterday.
Following the medical advice, the Istiadat Menjunjung Duli and Istiadat Pengurniaan Darjah Kebesaran Selangor, held in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of the Sultan's reign, has been rescheduled from Nov 1 to Nov 7.
Istana Alam Shah urged all parties involved to take note of the revised date and thanked them for their cooperation and understanding.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also prayed for the Sultan's speedy recovery and continued good health.
In a Facebook post, Anwar prayed that Allah SWT would grant the ruler a full recovery and keep him under His protection and blessings.
The palace also called on the public to pray for Sultan Sharafuddin's recovery and continued well-being. - November 1, 2026
