KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded 2,464 fresh Covid-19 cases and seven deaths, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
This brings the nation’s caseload to 264,269 and death toll to 965.
In a statement today, Dr Noor Hisham said three of the new cases were imported.
The country also logged a record high of 4,525 recoveries today, bringing the total number of those discharged to 213,814.
He said 260 cases are under intensive care, while 111 require intubation.
Selangor again recorded the highest number of new infections at 1,103, followed by Johor (492), Kuala Lumpur (154), Sarawak (161) and Sabah (116).
Kedah saw 92 cases, followed by Kelantan (88), Perak (85), Penang (56), Terengganu (51), Negri Sembilan (40), Melaka (11), Pahang (10), Putrajaya (4) and Labuan (1).
Perlis is the only state without new infections today.
Dr Noor Hisham said that 54 of the new cases today were in detention centres involving the following clusters: Tembok Bendera cluster (18 cases), Tembok Pengkala Chepa (14), Jalan Harapan Prison (10), Jalan Sg Jelok prison (9), Tembok Renggam Prison (1), Kepayan Prison (1) and Seberang Prai Prison (1).
Three of today's seven deaths occurred in Sarawak, two in Selangor, and one each in Sabah and Penang.
The death in Sabah – at the Likas Women and Children's Hospital – involved a 9-year-old boy who had a history of medulloblastoma.
So far, the country has seen 983 clusters, including 11 new clusters today.
A total of 499 clusters have ended thus far, including 10 today involving the Tembok Gajah, Awan Puteh construction site, Hartamas construction site, Perkasa construction site, Rantau Semarak, Rantau Lada, Dialisis Putra, Mengkuang, Jalan Pandan Indah, and Firma clusters.
The cluster that recorded the highest number of new cases are the Jalan Istimewa Cemerlang cluster (107 cases), Jalan Usaha Satu cluster (69 cases) and Pasai cluster (65 cases).
Nine out of the 11 new clusters today are workplace clusters and one is a community cluster, while another is related to a religious activity.
Johor recorded five of today's new clusters. They are the Jalan Istimewa Cemerlang cluster in Johor Baru with 109 cases; the Batu 57 cluster in Johor Baru and Pontian with 70 cases; Jalan Terbau Khas in Johor Baru and Kulai with 29 cases; Jalan Persiaran Teknologi Kulai in Johor Baru and Kulai with 45 cases; and, the Jalan Usaha Satu cluster with 70 cases.
In Selangor, the Health Ministry logged the Jalan Jelatek cluster in Gombak with 35 cases, and the Jalan Sepuluh cluster in Petaling with 32 cases.
Kedah saw the Ria Jaya cluster in Kuala Muda with 81 cases, and Sabah recorded the Patikang Ulu cluster in Keningau with 185 infections, while Perak logged the Jalan Badak cluster in Kinta and Kuala Kangsar with 23 cases. – The Vibes, February 14, 2021
