KUALA LUMPUR – People with disabilities will soon have their own online platform to display and sell their handmade crafts, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun.
She said that the platform, to be developed by the ministry, will provide an alternative platform for the group to generate income and make a name for themselves along the way.
“We are currently in the planning stages of the platform’s development. We are also planning to meet existing e-merchants and discuss something moving in this direction as soon as possible.
“I am certain many people with disabilities would benefit from this platform as many of them have wonderful talents that can be easily transformed into means of income,” she told reporters during a visit to a disabled persons’ home at Taman Sinar Harapan Ziyad Zolkefli here today.
The minister said more details on the platform would be announced later.
Commenting on the recent viral incident involving a woman who claimed she was sexually harassed by a policeman when stopped at a roadblock, Rina said a specific legislation related to sexual harassment was currently underway.
She also advised women dealing with sexual harassment to be fearless and not be afraid to reach out for help.
Apart from reaching out to the ministry’s channel through Talian Kasih, she urged the victims to take cautionary measures such as recording such incidents and to always carry safety gear such as pepper spray. – Bernama, February 15, 2021
