BUTTERWORTH – The Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda) has donated food items worth RM32,500 to those still affected by the reimplementation of the movement control order (MCO) due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Its chairman Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq said that through the PERDA4U #KamiPrihatin series 1/2021 programme, his team targeted 650 individuals and families who had been identified from the 13 parliamentary constituencies in the state.
“A total of 50 recipients for each parliamentary constituency received assistance in the form of basic food items such as cooking oil, eggs, sugar, flour, soy sauce, chili sauce, biscuits, instant noodles and coffee,” he told reporters after presenting the donations at the Perda compound here today.
“With this contribution, we hope to alleviate the financial burden faced by those affected by Covid-19 and MCO 2.0.”
Apart from that, Khaliq said that the PERDA4U programme would continue by focusing on the low-income households, in collaboration with government departments, non-governmental organisations, and corporate bodies.
He said that Perda would continue programmes such as training and guidance aimed at improving the knowledge and skills of rural women, as well as creating opportunities to generate income, and involvement of rural women in the economic sector.
“In terms of implementation, these women’s skills development programmes will be held at two rural community centres (PKD), namely PKD Sungai Chenaam, in Seberang Perai Selatan, and PKD Kampung Selamat, in Seberang Perai Utara,” Khaliq added. – Bernama, February 15, 2021
