KUCHING – The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (DMC) today declared Kg Hilir in Sri Aman as the latest area hit by rabies.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also state DMC chairman, said the village is, in all, the 67th area to have recorded the disease.
“The areas that have been declared as rabies-infected are Kuching (7), Sibu (2), Miri (6), Sarikei (5), Kapit (1), Bintulu (4), Samarahan (4), Betong (3), Serian (22), Mukah (6), Limbang (1) and Sri Aman (6),” he said in a statement today.
He said dog owners must ensure their pets receive the annual rabies injection.
Failure to do so may result in them being convicted under Section 40 of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999. – Bernama, February 18, 2021
