PUTRAJAYA – Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates in enhanced movement control order (EMCO) areas must still physically sit the examination, which is scheduled to begin on Monday.
Education director-general Datuk Habibah Abdul Rahim said only candidates who are confirmed to be infected with Covid-19 or close contacts to a positive case are allowed not to be present at the examination centre.
However, she said, these candidates must furnish proof from a doctor or the respective district health offices.
“According to the guideline, only healthy candidates can be present. So, wherever they are – either in MCO, conditional MCO or EMCO areas – candidates must physically sit the examination as long as they are fit.
“If they are confirmed positive, or are close contacts and under quarantine, they cannot be present at the examination centre, but after that period is over, they can go to the centre.
“The Education Ministry will reschedule the examination for the papers that the candidates have missed due to the quarantine order.”
According to ministry data, 401,105 candidates will be sitting the SPM examination at 3,310 examination centres nationwide.
Of the total, 1,150 candidates will join to sit the examination at other centres.
On the possibility of examination questions being leaked, Habibah said the issue will not arise as the ministry will provide a different set of questions with the same standard and format. – Bernama, February 19, 2021
