SHAH ALAM – The public cannot stop police from inspecting their vehicles if there is suspicion that an offence has or is being committed, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said.
He said policemen manning roadblocks are duty-bound to inspect documents, such as identification cards, licences, vehicle details, as well as the validity of road insurances and travel documents.
“The public must obey roadblock personnel when asked to provide any document within their prerogative of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the guidelines of the National Security Council (NSC).
“Not obstructing cops from carrying out their duties is also among NSC SOPs,” he said after visiting a roadblock at the Setia Alam Toll Plaza here yesterday.
Acryl Sani was commenting on those who have questioned the power and limitation of the police force when manning roadblocks.
“There are those who use vehicles to smuggle prohibited goods or commit criminal activities... The vehicle might also be stolen,” he said.
When asked to comment on the Covid-19 vaccine, which is expected to arrive in the country on Sunday, Acryl Sani said his team has made detailed preparations to assist the Health Ministry in ensuring its safe arrival.
“This includes ensuring the movement, transfer, storage and distribution of the vaccine to designated locations are safe and secure.” – Bernama, February 19, 2021
