GUA MUSANG – More than 5,000 Orang Asli living in the interior here are all geared up for the Covid-19 vaccination once the inoculation drive begins later this month.
Kelantan Orang Asli head Bidi Ronggeng said the settlers in Pos Brooke, Pos Hendrope and Pos Tuel have agreed and welcomed the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
“The Orang Asli community here will not reject the jab as the government, through the Health Ministry, has recommended that we get it for our health and well-being.”
In fact, Bidi said, he was infected with Covid-19 and it was a scary experience.
As such, he has been advising the settlers to take care of their health and comply with the set standard operating procedures to curb the spread of the virus.
Kg Jedip Orang Asli head Nasir Busu said the arrival of the vaccine tomorrow will bring relief to 300 villagers there.
“Most of us have been staying indoors since the virus outbreak in March last year as we are worried of getting infected. So, we are relieved that the vaccine will be here soon.”
The first batch of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will arrive in the country tomorrow, with Phase 1 of the immunisation programme, which will include frontliners, to run at the end of this month until April. – Bernama, February 20, 2021
