KOTA KINABALU – The number of daily Covid-19 cases in Kota Kinabalu and its surrounding areas have dropped to single digits.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said today the Kota Kinabalu district recorded only nine new cases, followed by Penampang (7) and Putatan (2).
Referring to Covid-19 map for Sabah, Masidi pointed out that more than half the red-zone districts in Sabah are becoming yellow and orange zones, confirming that the situation in Sabah is stabilising.
Masidi said other than the 25 cases detected in an old cluster in the Kinabatangan area, almost all other districts in Sabah were in the single digits or recorded no cases.
He also took the opportunity to thank the people of Sabah for cooperating with frontliners in to combat the pandemic in the state.
“The statistics we have seen in the last week show that if and when we decide to cooperate and discipline ourselves by complying with relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs), we can in fact change the situation and be able to push down the number of daily cases.
“Of course, it went up today to 110 from 85 cases yesterday, but the reason is because of old active clusters. From time to time, we get numbers from these clusters that push up the count.
“But, by and large, I think we are doing pretty well considering the circumstances. This is possible because all those staying in Sabah are willing to assist frontliners in ensuring we win the fight against the pandemic.
He hoped all in Sabah will continue to abide by regulatory requirements and observe all SOPs to beat Covid-19.
When asked about the number of Covid-19 patients who had to take the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia exam at quarantine centres, hospitals, and at home, or classified as persons under investigation, Masidi said the state Education Department has informed that the available records are incomplete and for internal use only.
“The Education Ministry has issued the Guidelines for the Reopening of Schools to prevent the spread of Covid-19 among students, (and students and teachers) must comply with SOPs issued by the National Security Council/Health Ministry at all times while in school.”
When asked about the vaccine arrival date for Sabah, Masidi said the first delivery of the jab is expected on Thursday.
He said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor is expected to receive the shot after the State-Level Covid-19 Vaccination Inauguration Ceremony planned for March 4.
Masidi said that to date, 109 vaccination centres have been identified and will be involved in the nationwide immunisation programme.
He said the number of vaccination centres will be reviewed from time to time by the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) at the respective district level.
Masidi added that other than frontliners included in Phase 1 of the immunisation programme, the state government will consider giving the jabs to teachers with health conditions.
He said the vaccine will arrive in the state in three batches.
