SHAH ALAM – The shariah high court here has issued an arrest warrant against controversial cosmetics entrepreneur Muhammad Sajjad Kamaruz Zaman, better known as Nur Sajat, for failing to attend proceedings today.
A source told Bernama that the warrant was issued by sharie judge Mohammad Khalid Shaee @ Shaii.
“He (Nur Sajat) did not attend court today, and the judge issued an arrest warrant.”
Sharie lawyer Zuri Zabuddin Budiman, representing Nur Sajat, 36, said mention of his client’s case has been postponed to June 1.
The accused has been charged with dressing up as a woman at a religious event, bringing Islam into contempt, three years ago.
“He (Nur Sajat) is required to be present in court on the new date,” Zuri Zabuddin told reporters here.
“We will probably do mitigation, but have yet to discuss it.”
Also representing the accused are counsel Ahmad Nazib Johari, Noor Azlina Che Hassan and Amirah Zainal.
In proceedings on January 6, Nur Sajat was charged with committing the abovesaid offence at his beauty centre in Section 16, Shah Alam, at 7.30pm on February 23, 2018.
He was charged under Section 10(a) of the Shariah Crimes (Selangor) Enactment 1995, which provides for a maximum fine of RM5,000, or imprisonment not exceeding three years, or both, upon conviction. – Bernama, February 23, 2021
