GOF seizes RM4.2 mil of syabu in Rantau Panjang raid

PASIR MAS – A total of 107kg of syabu worth RM4.2 million was seized by the 8th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) in a raid near Kg Lubok Gong, Rantau Panjang at 4am yesterday.

GOF Southeast Brigade commander Hasan Basri Ahmad Safar said the seizure was made after a seven-member strike force team monitored an abandoned house after receiving a tip-off on drug smuggling activities.

“They moved in after failing to detect any movement and found six packages under the cement stair of the burned house,” he told reporters at the Pasir Mas district police headquarters here today.

He said a white gunny sack in one of the packages inspected contained plastic packets of crystals suspected to be syabu.

He said the drugs were handed over to the Pasir Mas headquarters for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Hasan said it was the biggest drug seizure in the past two months worth RM4.2 million.

He said police believed the drugs were smuggled in via an illegal jetty because the burned house is only 200m from the bank of Sg Golok.

He said that, during the same period, there were 16 cases under the Dangerous Drugs Act recorded by GOF’s Southeast Brigade.

Fifteen suspects, including a woman, were also arrested while the drugs seized, including the current case, were worth a combined total of RM4.431 million, he said. – Bernama, February 23, 2021
