KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission today failed in its bid to stay the execution of the high court decision dismissing its application to forfeit RM100,000 from Tan Sri Kasitah Gaddam.

The money was seized by the anti-graft agency after it was linked to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal.

Judicial commissioner Datuk Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Salleh dismissed MACC’s stay application.

Deputy public prosecutor Maziah Mohaide prosecuted, while lawyer Sasila Basri represented the former land and cooperatives development minister.

On July 24 last year, Shahrir rejected MACC’s application to forfeit RM100,000 from Kasitah.

In his judgment, he said the court found that the prosecution failed to prove that the money seized from Kasitah’s CIMB account was proceeds from unlawful activities.

In June 2019, then MACC chief Latheefa Koya said a civil forfeiture application had been filed against 41 respondents to recover 1MDB-linked funds amounting to RM270 million. – Bernama, February 24, 2021
