BUKIT MERTAJAM – Following a public tip-off, a couple here has been arrested for allegedly abusing their Cambodian maid of two years.

Acting on public information sent to Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Shafee Abd Samad, a team went to the couple’s residence in Jalan Perpaduan, Kg Baru Bukit Mertajam, at 9.30pm yesterday.

“During the raid, we found a Cambodian woman in her 30s who was working as a maid, on the floor in a room.

“An initial physical examination found that the victim suffered injuries to the face, scars on her arms, body and legs,” he said today.

Shafee said the victim, who has been working for the couple for two years, told the police she has been splashed with hot water, beaten and pinched.

He added the victim is at Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment.
