KUALA LUMPUR – More states in Peninsular Malaysia are receiving the supply of Covid-19 vaccine, Comirnaty, produced by Pfizer-BioNTech on the second day of the first phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Melaka, Kelantan, Perak, Pahang and Perlis received the vaccine supply yesterday.
The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme started yesterday with Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin being the first individual to receive the vaccine.
In Kedah, a DHL lorry carrying 2,340 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine arrived safely about 12.40pm today at the Integrated Pharmacy Logistics Unit store of the Langkawi Health Office at the Air Hangat Clinic.
The lorry had travelled from Penang International Airport to the Kuala Perlis Jetty in Perlis before using the ro-ro ferry service to Tg Lembung, Langkawi.
Twelve vaccinators will receive the shots this Sunday followed by 400 frontliners of the Langkawi Health Office.
In Terengganu, the first batch of the vaccines involving more than 16,000 doses arrived safely at the Main Pharmacy Unit of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu at 1.30pm.
Three vaccine storage centres in Kuala Terengganu, Kemaman and Setiu also received the supply of vaccines today.
State Health Director Dr Nor Azimi Yunus said the vaccination process for all frontliners will start on March 2.
Meanwhile, Terengganu Civil Defence Force director Mohd Rosman Abdullah said 530 officers and personnel will get the shots in the first phase of immunisation programme in the state.
In Penang, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow will get the first shot on Sunday.
“To date, the Penang Health Department has announced that 15 Vaccine Administration Centres have been identified involving three halls for each district in the state,” he said in a statement. – Bernama, February 25, 2021
