KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), one of the component parties in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition is eyeing six parliamentary seats in the 15th general election (GE15).
SAPP Deputy President Edward Dagul said that the six federal seats included Kota Kinabalu, Sepanggar, Papar in the West Coast and three seats in the east coast, Sandakan, Tawau and Silam.
“We are asking for these seats and for now our request will definitely clash with the other component parties,” he told The Vibes.
According to Dagul, SAPP has a formula in the seat distribution, adding that seat talks had been initiated.
The talks will start with the national parties namely Bersatu, PAS and Gerakan followed by Sabah-based parties namely SAPP and Sabah Star.
Seat talks between the GRS alliance have become louder after Barisan Nasional’s Umno announced plans that they may contest at least 14 of the total 25 parliamentary seats in Sabah in GE15.
Dagul also confirmed that Perikatan Nasional parties had an election bureau meeting last night with Senior Minister Datuk Azmin Ali.
Meanwhile, Sabah Star made it clear that they wanted to contest 8 seats, while Bersatu have made their picks public.
SAPP failed to garner any seat in the 16th Sabah election held in September last year.
Its president, Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee who is also former Sabah chief minister is the sole Chinese nominated assemblyman. – The Vibes, February 25, 2021
