KUALA LUMPUR – Anyone found violating the movement control order (MCO) will be slapped with compounds of up to RM10,000 each, according to the Emergency (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases) (Amendment) Ordinance 2021.
The ordinance published today in the Federal Gazette website also said companies found violating MCO regulations will face compounds of up to RM50,000 each, and representatives can be charged in court.
It will be effective come March 11.
Stiffer penalties under Section 24 states that any individual who breaches the law for “which no penalty is expressly provided” will face a fine of up to RM100,000 or a jail sentence up to seven years.
It added that authorities are allowed to instruct Covid-19 patients or their close contacts to wear tracking devices, such as wristbands provided by the Health Ministry.
The tampering of such devices is deemed a criminal offence. – The Vibes, February 25, 2021
