KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s cumulative Covid-19 cases have breached the 300,000-mark with today’s 2,437 fresh infections.
The country also records nine fatalities, bringing the death toll to 1,130.
The deaths involve three victims in Selangor, two in Sarawak, and one each in Melaka, Kelantan and Perak. Johor’s non-citizen victim is a 102-year-old woman.
The Health Ministry in a statement said the country has logged 3,251 recoveries today, bringing the total to 273,417, adding that 202 patients are in intensive care, while 93 need ventilator aid.
Selangor remains as the state with the most new cases at 914, followed by Johor (340), Kuala Lumpur (337), Perak (287), Sarawak (171), Sabah (134) and Penang (105).
States with fewer than 100 news cases are Negri Sembilan with 65, Kelantan (33), Kedah (13), Terengganu (12), Pahang (11), Melaka (10), Putrajaya (three) and Labuan (two).
Perlis has no new infection today.
The country also sees nine new clusters today – Johor (four), Selangor (three), and one each in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
Johor’s four clusters have a total of 77 cases – Jalan Timah Tiga (31), Jalan Tg Empat (28), Jalan Desa Tropika (10) and Batu Empat (eight).
The Perusahaan Jalan Bukit cluster in Selangor was detected after a Covid-19 screening of factory workers in the Bukit Angkat industrial area in Kajang. Of the 699 individuals screened, 262 tested positive.
The Industri Waja cluster in Kuala Langat, Selangor, is another worksite cluster detected after factory workers underwent screening. The factory is in the industrial area of Jalan Waja 13 in Teluk Panglima Garang. Of the 248 individuals screened, 45 were infected.
The Jalan Selisik cluster, involving the Petaling and Kuala Selangor districts, is also screened factory workers. Of the 32 tested, 17 were positive.
Kuala Lumpur’s Bukit Kiara construction site cluster involves the Kepong district, where 181 positive cases were recorded after 250 individuals were screened.
Penang’s Jalan Sg Baong cluster in Seberang Prai Selatan is a result of a targeted screening of a factory in the Furniture Industrial Estate. Of the 90 workers screened, 40 tested positive. – The Vibes, February 28, 2021
